I've Fallen and I Can't Get Up!

A quick thought of the day - next time you have someone in your guard, just get out and stand up. This is not only smart from a self-defense perspective (I never want to be on the bottom), but I have found that threatening to get away forces my opponent into action. Hopefully an action I can capitalize on.
I remember Matt Thornton talking ages ago about the three threats in an attacking guard: Sweep, Submit, or Get out (least trained). Dave Camarillo has helped me take the concept and ingrain it into how I train. Now I either attack or try to get to even. Makes things simple.
It is a basic concept, but one that is easy to forget as we develop our guards.

Hey Paul,
Good point about the emphasis on getting up and how it's the least trained. And a tardy congratulations on your promotion. I wondered how close you were to your purple. Keep up the posts, they really help.
Fred
